DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Detroit lost their first regular season game of the year, 6-2, at home on Tuesday night to the New Jersey Devils. It is the first regular season loss as the other two came in overtime as they are 3-1-2 (wins, losses, overtime losses) for eight points.

Detroit’s Dylan Larkin put the Red Wings up, 1-0, in the first period just 2:56 in. New Jersey then scored the next four goals for the three-goal lead. They posted two goals in the first at 11:25 and 15:16 and then scored just 43 seconds into the second period. Their fourth goal came at 4:54 to make it 4-1. Dominik Kubalik cut the lead to two, 4-2, in the third period at 8:17 but New Jersey added two more goals at the 15:38 and 16:27 marks for the 6-2 final.

Head coach Derek Lalonde says, “We’ve had a good start, but this is a huge lesson. We are not good enough to have lapses in our game and to get away from what makes us successful.”

Larkin followed by saying, “We let the game turn into a turnover-fest. That’s the way they wanna play. They’re good on the transition and they turnover pucks, too, but they made us pay on our turnovers.”

Detroit plays next on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. at Boston.
