DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Marvin Bagley III became a Piston late last year and proved himself by signing a three-year extension over the summer for $37 million. Just three games into the preseason, he will be out two to three weeks with a knee injury.
On Tuesday night, in a 115-99 loss to Oklahoma City, Bagley III went down in the lane slipping while defending on a fast break. He immediately grabbed his knee. In the transition, it looked as if he slipped on a wet floor as one leg did the splits and the other buckled under him. Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reported on late Tuesday night that Bagley III underwent a MRI.
On Wednesday, ESPN reported that Bagley III avoided serious injury but will miss the start of the regular season.
Bagley III signed with Detroit in June after 18 games with the Pistons in the 2021-22 season. He averaged 14.6 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while starting eight games. He came to Detroit on February 10 after being acquired from Sacramento on Feb. 10 in a four-team trade. He was the second overall pick in the 2018 draft by Sacramento.
Detroit is currently 0-3 in the preseason and will host Memphis on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
