LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Fresh off her final gubernatorial debate and thirteen days before the election, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said she’s reaching out to parents to share their feedback in a survey.

“Parents are their children’s first and most important teacher, and we need your input to help our kids thrive in school,” Whitmer wrote in an email. “We need parents’ perspectives to help our kids learn in-person, tackle unfinished learning, and get on track for long-term success.”

Last month, Gov. Whitmer formed the Michigan Parents’ Council, selecting a handful of parents in the state to “represent the parent perspective and ensure that parents have an empowered seat at the table in state budget discussions.”

The survey, which is open through Monday, October 31, is available in English, Spanish, and Arabic. It takes roughly six minutes to complete, according to Gov. Whitmer.

In Tuesday night’s debate, GOP challenger Tudor Dixon took Whitmer to task over the state’s low reading scores, and the fact that Michigan is in the bottom ten in the nation when it comes to education.

“I am looking forward to working directly with parents to make Michigan a Top 10 state for education and further improving the lives of students all over the state,” Whitmer said on Wednesday.
