DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – The pitching changes for Detroit have already began as the Tigers are letting one-year signee Michael Pineda go. Detroit has put Pineda on the designated for assignment list as they try to find their future pitchers now.

Pineda is a 32-year old free agent that signed with Detroit this year at $5.75 million. That amount of money, which isn’t a whole lot for a one-season pitcher, didn’t pan out as he went 2-7 with a 5.79 ERA in only 11 starts. He only produced 26 strikeouts and walked eight batters in 46 2/3 innings pitched.

This adds to the Tiger woes of trying to bolster their pitching staff with free agents. Pineda isn’t as bad as signing Julio Teheran in 2021 for $5 million who made just one start. This adds to the pitchers that have also under performed in Francisco (2018), Matt Moor and Tyson Ross (2019), Ivan Nova (2020), and Jose Urena (2021).

Detroit will call up right-hander Luis Castillo from Toledo for Pineda’s spot as they head to California for a three-game series vs. the Los Angeles Angels.
