NOVI, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – ITC Holdings Corp., a Novi-based energy company, was awarded the 2022 Wildlife Habitat Council (WHC) Gold Tier Program Award and WHC Forests Project Award for numerous projects within its 92 acres of wildlands.

ITC Holdings Corp. also earned high praise for its exemplary leadership in corporate conservation during the 2022 WHC Conservation Conference for its most recent conservation projects. At the Novi headquarters, there are 92 acres of wilderness projects.

These projects include diverse woodlands, open green space, wetlands, a naturalized transmission corridor, and a nature trail. The grounds are maintained throughout the year using sustainable environmental principles, some which include: removing invasive species, planting native species, observing wildlife trail cameras for yearly flora and fauna surveys.

To date ITC Holdings Corp. holds 14 WHC Conservation Certifications for continued corporate wildlife conservation. But the 2022 award stems from the company’s 12 conservation projects within seven categories: Forest, Landscaped, Wetlands and Water Bodies, Avian, Invasive Species, Pollinators and Reptiles, and Amphibians.

The company earned the Forest Project Award for scoring the highest within the Forest themed category. The Gold Tier project awardees must earn a minimum of 262 points for a particular project, and the award certification lasts for 3 years. At the end of the 3 year term, companies must reapply.

While ITC has partnered with the City of Novi to develop a public trail which fully opened in 2019, the company has also completed a company exclusive one mile walking trail for its employees within the 62 acres of actively managed wilderness.
