DETROIT, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – At a time when most Democratic politicians are keeping their distance from an unpopular president because of rising crime, inflation and a border crisis, Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer did just the opposite on Wednesday at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Not only did Whitmer attend the show and appeared in a photo op with the president, she was also seen entering the event holding his hand. Many people found this a little strange.

With Democratic Michigan U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell and Democratic Senator Debbie Stabenow on the sidelines, Biden took advantage of his visit with Whitmer to hold her hand just like he did at an airport in July of 2021 during a Traverse City visit to talk about his bipartisan infrastructure plan.

Paul Joseph Watson tweeted, “Joe Biden found time to wander around a car show in Detroit, weirdly holding hands with Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, before rambling incoherently, bragging about the economy being strong, and finally getting lost while on stage.”

Summit News asked, “Why is he holding hands with a woman who isn’t his wife?”

Hand-in-hand on policy, both Whitmer and Biden were at the Detroit Auto Show to tout electric vehicles and an investment in EV charging stations in the middle of Whitmer’s re-election bid to continue to be Michigan’s governor.

Whitmer tweeted her confidence in being on the frontlines of the EV movement yesterday when she said, “Michigan put the world on wheels over a century ago. We’re still in the driver’s seat for the auto industry. More than any other state, Michigan is home to nearly a fifth of US auto production. We’ll keep the world moving forward in the
next century.”

Whitmer spoke at the auto show along with U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, Michigan U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell, and Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow who said about Whitmer, ”We couldn’t have a better governor during a very difficult time for us…who’s courageous, who’s smart, who works hard, who loves Michigan and fights for us and wins every day…”

When Whitmer was asked at the auto show about supporting Biden for president in 2024, she said she’s “not having that conversation” and after Dingell said “we’re all supporting him” Whitmer added “we’ve all already said that on record.”

Ryan Buchalski, president of the United Auto Workers Local 598 introduced Biden, and called him, “The most union-and labor-friendly president in American history” and someone who was “kickin’ ass for the working class.”
