MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The first two weeks of the 2022 season will be to remember for Central Michigan. They open the season on Thursday night vs. Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla., and then the following week re-dedicate their football field.
This will be the third meeting with Oklahoma State after playing them in back-to-back years in 2015 and 2016. The series is split, 1-1, as the Cowboys won in 2015, 24-13, in Mt. Pleasant, but then CMU won on a controversial call in 2016, 30-27.

Thursday night will be a night for CMU to showcase their talents on Fox Sports 1 national television. Lew Nichols III, one of the top running backs in the nation, receives a chance to show off his talent to a national audience. He was the 2021 MAC Offensive Player of the Year and lead all NCAA in rushing.
The home opener is September September 10 and the field will be dedicated to two legends for CMU in Roy Kramer and Herb Deromedi. Both coaches were at CMU in 1974 leading the Chippewas to the NCAA Division II national championship. Kramer coached 11 seasons at CMU going 83-32-2 and was the National Coach of the Year, once, and Kramer went on to be the athletic director at Vanderbilt University.
CMU’s Zyzelewski Family Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics Amy Folan says, “We are proud to honor the rich tradition and football history at CMU by dedicating this field to coach Roy Kramer and Herb Deromedi. The indelible print of these two legendary CMU leaders has benefited so many throughout the years and will continue to benefit future generations.”
The game will be at 1:00 p.m. vs. South Alabama on ESPN+.
