DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Holding off the Texas Rangers rally in the ninth inning, Detroit came away with a 9-8 win in Texas for their 50th win of the year. Joe Jimenez earned just his second save of the year as Drew Hutchison won his second game with three strikeouts.
After getting the first batter out in the ninth inning, Gregory Soto gave up a double and a home run for three runs as Texas pulled to within one, 9-8. Jimenez came in and delivered with a strikeout and fly out ending the Rangers threat.

Kerry Carpenter led with three hits and one RBI but Harold Castro posted five RBI on two hits. Riley Greene, Victor Reyes, Castro, and Jeimer Candelario all had two hits. Candelario added two RBI.
Detroit opened the game with a 6-0 lead after four innings. Carpenter started off the scoring in the second inning with a double as Eric Haase came in. Candelario then smashed a shot to right center field for two runs and the 3-0 lead. Haase scored again in the third inning on a bases loaded walk as Kody Clemens received four balls for the RBI. Castro made it 6-0 in the fourth inning with a line drive single to center field bringing in Reyes.
Castro pushed the lead to 9-0 in the sixth inning with a bases clearing double as Greene, Reyes, and Javier Baez all crossed home plate. Texas answered in the bottom of the sixth with two runs to pull within seven runs, 9-2. They added three in the eighth with a rally to make it 9-5 and three more off of Soto in the ninth to come within one, 9-8, with one out. Jimenez came in and shut down the threat as the Tigers won the series.
