OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – During a Zoom hearing with Oakland County Circuit Judge Kwame Rowe, his attorneys, and an assistant prosecutor, Oxford High School shooting suspect Ethan Crumbley was denied a request to transfer out of the Oakland County Jail, pending his trial set for Jan. 17, 2023.

The suspect is now 16, and is facing 24 felony charges, including killing four fellow students at the school and wounding a teacher and six others. If convicted of the crimes, he is facing possible life in prison.
One of Crumbley’s defense attorneys, Paulette Loftin, has asked Rowe for additional time before trial to review the evidence for her client, and the defense team has indicated via a court filing that they plan to use an insanity defense for the minor.
His parents, Jennifer and James Crumbley, are also secured in the same jail and await trial on four counts of involuntary manslaughter after prosecutors accused them of granting their son easy access to a firearm and disregarding signs that he was a potential threat before the Oxford High School shooting on Nov. 30.
While the parents have pleaded not guilty, they await a trial on Oct. 24 and could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
A Michigan statute requires minors held in adult facilities to be evaluated every month by a judge.
