LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Michigan Secretary of State’s office announced that applications to vote absentee for the November 8 general election are now available for Michiganders.
Absentee voter ballots will begin arriving by Sept. 29 and will be available for early, in-person voting in clerks’ offices then as well.
Anyone who is registered to vote in Michigan is eligible to vote absentee. Applicants should visit for the necessary forms. Alternatively, they may print an application form form the site and mail, email, or personally deliver it to their local clerk. Local clerk contact information can be found at Michigan.gov/Vote
The website also provides a ballot-tracking function which allows voters to check when a clerk has received their absentee ballot request, when their ballot was mailed out, and when the clerk has received the completed ballot from the voter.
November 4 is the Friday before the election, and is the last day that online and mail requests for absentee ballots can be submitted to the local clerk for consideration. Michiganders who are already registered at their current address can request an absentee ballot in person until 4p.m. November 7 at their local clerk’s office.
Ballots will not be counted unless the voter’s signature on file matches the signature on the return envelope. The local clerk’s must receive the absentee ballots by 8pm on Election Day to be counted.
Roughly 2.1 million voters, nearly half of all of the votes from the last election, chose to submit their votes as absentee ballots.
