Meanwhile, the Michigan Republican party is putting the final pieces into place before its nominating convention in Lansing this weekend. On Friday afternoon, GOP gubernatorial nominee Tudor Dixon announced Shane Hernandez as her running mate.
The GOP process to nail down its ticket for November could be met with pushback from within its own party. Former gubernatorial candidates Ryan Kelley and Garrett Soldano have interacted with each other on social media for the last week. Kelley’s followers appeared to support an effort to put him in the Lieutenant Governor spot, which forced him to release this statement:

Garrett Soldano was forced to reign in his supporters in the last week, clarifying that the party must support Tudor Dixon. However, he appears to have focused more of his attention on asking his followers to fund Ryan Kelley’s legal fund to fight misdemeanor charges stemming from his alleged involvement in the events surround January 6, 2021. Soldano made the rounds over the weekend, meeting with presumed GOP Attorney General candidate Matt DePerno.
