DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Detroit scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the game at three. That tie didn’t last very long as Gregory Soto gave up a single with one out in the top of 10th as Cleveland received the only run they would need. Detroit went one-two-three in the bottom of the inning as the MLB extra inning “ghost runner” advanced to third with one out. The final two batters struck out ending the chance to tie the game.

The Tigers pounded out seven hits as Willi Castro went 3-of-4 with a run scored. Javier Baez added two hits and one RBI. Jonathan Schoop and Eric Haase both had a RBI. Garrett Hill went five innings with just one strikeout. Soto received the loss in the extra inning and now is 2-7 on the year.

Cleveland scored three runs in the first five innings for the 3-0 lead. Baez put the Tigers first run on the board with a one-out home run to left field. In the bottom of the ninth, Schoop doubled in Harold Castro to pull within one run with no outs. In a contested call, Castro scored with two outs to tie the game and send it to extra innings.

Detroit has now lost four games in a row and seven of their last eight as they head to Chicago to face the White Sox in a three-game series over the weekend.
