DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – A run in the seventh inning to cut the lead to two wasn’t enough for the Tigers as they dropped the first game of the series to San Francisco, 3-1. Detroit finished with seven hits and one extra base hit. Riley Greene and Javier Baez both had two hits.
Drew Hutchinson went five innings with three strikeouts giving up just one earned run but with no offense he took his seventh loss of the year. Daniel Norris, Jose Cisnero, Joe Jimenez, and Andrew Chafin all took turns on the mound. Norris gave up two more runs and Chafin added two strikeouts.

Hutchinson’s only run given up came in the first inning and didn’t get the offense needed to support his pitching. Detroit went 1-2-3 in the second, third, and fourth innings with a runner on the first and fifth inning. San Francisco added two more runs in the sixth for a 3-0 lead but Detroit struck back in the seventh with a run. Eric Haase singled in the only run of the game to right field as Baez came in with no outs. With the tying run at the plate and no outs, Detroit grounded into a double play and then recorded a strikeout to end the rally.
Once again in the bottom of the ninth inning, Detroit had the chance to tie the game. The bases were loaded with just one out but Miguel Cabrera struck out and then Castro grounded out to first base to end any sort of a comeback.
They will finish their series on Wednesday at 1:10 p.m.
