Smith is a three-time letter winner having a break out year in 2021 with 37 tackles. He says, “This feels great. I have had more eyes on me and someone who is noticeable and I appreciate that with people seeing what I am trying to do. It feels good to be appreciated and respected.”

He quotes, “If there is any time during the season when things feel shaky I am definitely someone I want the team to lean on , not only because they voted me as captain, but because I view myself as a true leader on this team. The final senior to be chosen is tight end Erick All from Fairfield, Ohio. He is also a three-year letterman and an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection. Last year he caught 38 passes for 437 yards and two touchdowns. All said, “When they announced me I was shocked. The final selection, which could end up being the starting quarterback, is graduate student Cade McNamara. The two-time letter winner was an All-Big Ten third-team selection that threw for

“I’m extremely honored to be elected your captain. For it to be a player only vote and for your team to recognize you as a leader of the team – there is no greater accomplishment especially at this level. My message was how honored I am, the potential of this team, how fired up I am for this season, and how blessed I was to be recognized by them and I love them,” said McNamara.
Michigan is just over a week away from opening up their 2022 season and defending their Big Ten Championship.
