EAST LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Rochester Hills resident Grace Wang experienced the biggest moment of her life on Thursday afternoon at Forest Akers West Golf Course when she won the Michigan Girls Junior State Amateur Championship.
Wang earned the win by one stroke over Sophie Stevens of Highland in the final match play. The tournament was sponsored by the Golf Association of Michigan (GAM).

She earned a spot in the championship match with a 3 and 1 win over Kate Brody of Grand Blanc earlier that morning.
Under pressure in the championship, Wang made two birdies to keep her lead. She birdied the par 3 No. 10 hole on a 36-foot putt with her second birdie from 30-feet out on the No. 16 hole for a 2-up lead.
Coming down to the final hole as Stevens tied for the lead after the 16th and 17th hole, she came up short on a par putt as Wang won the tournament.
“It’s amazing,” said Wang on the win. “I see that my hard work has been paying off. For a moment in my summer I was struggling a little bit, but to be able to get this win really boosts my confidence.”
Wang, 16 years old, will be a senior at Rochester Adams High School this year.
