DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Jace Jung become a Detroit Tiger on Sunday night as the 12th overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft. The #9 overall prospect in MLB.com is from San Antonio, Texas, standing at 6-0, 205 pounds and was the fourth-ranked college hitter this year and the top lefty college bat.
Jung is the first middle infielder taken by Detroit, ever, in 20 years of draft picks. This past season at Texas Tech, he hit .335 with 14 home runs and batted .337 with 21 homers in 2021. Texas Tech made two NCAA Tournament appearances in his career.

He is no stranger to the MLB Draft as brother, Josh, was drafted three years earlier out of Texas Tech. Both Jace and his brother were back-to-back All-Americans for the Red Raiders.
Tigers Amateur Scouting Director Scott Pleis says, “You can see his emotion and his competitiveness on the field and how he wants to win, which is huge. You’ll see it as you watch him play. He’s a gritty guy, but his teammates love to watch him play. Just a lot of good traits to be a championship ballplayer.”
