LANSING, Mich. (MIRS News) – U.S. Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D) and Andy Levin (D) were among a group of Democrats arrested today after a protest outside the U.S. Supreme Court.
Tlaib and members of the Democratic Women’s Caucus sat in the street outside the court in protest of the decision overturning the right to abortion. The protest was organized by CPD Action, whose Twitter account calls itself the “trouble-making action sibling” of the Center for Popular Democracy.

“Civil disobedience has always been part of our history and fight for change,” Tlaib said in a statement released by her office after the arrest. “This moment and the fight for women’s and reproductive rights calls for it.”
Both Levin, who also took part in the protest, and Tlaib were released a short time after their arrests.
The nature of the charges were not immediately available, but Levin reportedly said he was arrested for “crowding, obstructing or incommoding,” a misdemeanor.
