LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency is pausing pandemic overpayment collections through October 31.

That means more than 391,000 workers won’t face new wage garnishments or intercepted state tax returns until then.

The suspension will allow the UIA to evaluate overpayment waiver claims.

To date the state has waived almost $4.5 billion dollars in overpayments.

Since July 2021, the UIA has been trying to clear up overpayment issues to almost 700,000 people who didn’t qualify for federal benefits.
