ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Jim Harbaugh was Jim Harbaugh at the 2022 Big Ten Media Days with little to no excitement but enthusiasm for the coming year. Michigan is the reigning Big Ten Champion and returns a majority of their offense.
Harbaugh states, “So our goals this year would be to beat Ohio State and Michigan State in the same year, win the Big Ten Championship, and win the National Championship. Those are our four goals.”

Plain and simple. Michigan wants to continue their momentum from the 2021 season to carry over into this year. A big part of that is the off season training and attitude.
“It’s been a tremendous offseason for the Michigan football program. Our guys since the end of last year have been attacking everything that they do. Life is good.”
But with the offseason training comes a quarterback duel. Last year Cade McNamara and J.J. McCarthy split time under center. One would think that McNamara would have the upper hand for the starting position throwing for 2,576 yards and 15 touchdowns. Behind him, though, McCarthy added 516 yards passing and five touchdown passes and two rushing touchdowns.
“Both quarterbacks are really good. Both played outstanding winning football when they went out there. Over 50 percent of Cade’s drives ended in points. Cade is going to be really tough to beat out. JJ is also going to be really tough to be out for the starting job,” says Harbaugh.
The Big Ten world may not know who is going to start until that first offensive snap vs. Colorado State on September 3. Either way, Michigan has a strong future at quarterback to lead the team.
Part of Harbaugh’s philosophy is building leaders and continuing tradition. With a lot of the 2021 team coming back, leaders are set in place to make a run in 2022.

“It’s been a really good continuation from last year’s team (on the transition to offseason),” says Harbaugh. “Our players know that good feeling of taking care of business and seeing that success and being rewarded for it. They are going to continue to attack. That’s what I love about this team.”
