GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Brett White and Bradley Smithson, both from Grand Rapids, have surged to the front of the leaderboard after the first day of play on Monday. White shot a 65, which is 7-under par, while Smithson is at 66 at the Alpine course.
White comes to the Tournament of Champions taking a quick break from the Korn Ferry Tour while Smithson is a Michigan State University golfer. The winner of the $65,000 54-hole championship will be determined on Wednesday. All the golfers will move to the Monument course after a 36-hole cut will be mad to the low 60 scores.

White, the 2020 Michigan Open, opened up with an eagle-3 on the par 5 hole. He said, “I had a great drive and then hit a 4-iron to like four feet. That was one of my best shots of the day for sure and it settled me down. This is a good start. Right where I want to be.”
Beau Breault of Howell, a past Michigan Amateur champion, is in third place with a 68. Scott Hebert shot a 69 and is the 2009 TOC champion and a Michigan Golf Hall of Fam member.
The second round will take place on Tuesday on the Monument Course.
