LANSING, Mich. (Great Lakes News) – Despite Michigan reporting zero new COVID-19 deaths on Wednesday, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer doubled-down on mandates in a Friday morning press conference.
“High school student athletics (sic) will now be required to be tested before all sports practices and competitions.”

Whitmer referred to “outbreaks” among high school athletes as the basis for this mandate.
In addition, Whitmer also said outdoor stadiums can go up to 20 percent capacity with certain COVID-19 mitigations in place.
While Michiganders continue to line up for the COVID-19 vaccine, Whitmer appeared to insert herself into people’s private residences, gatherings, and personal health decisions.
“Vaccinated people can remove their masks in residential gatherings if all participants have been vaccinated.”
The governor also praised what she called “critical support” when referring to grants given to Michigan’s hospitality workers earlier this week. The more than 55,900 people who applied each received around $793 each after seeing their businesses forced into lockdown during much of the past year.
Whitmer also went on to echo President Joe Biden’s sentiments that people might be able to get together with loved ones in larger settings by the Fourth of July holiday.

Whitmer’s announcement comes just hours after Michigan State Police arrested a West Michigan restaurant owner for ignoring the state’s indoor dining ban.

Pavlos-Hackney, an immigrant from then-communist Poland was stopped outside her home, arrested, then transported to Lansing to appear before an Ingham County judge.
It is not clear if Pavlos-Hackney will be released after her arraignment.
