LANSING, Mich. (Great Lakes News) – Some of Michigan’s largest chambers of commerce sent a letter to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer pushing for a graduated reopening of restaurants based on science and data.
The restaurant industry has been hit harder than most. Michigan’s restaurants and bars have endured several indoor dining bans over the past year. The most recent dining ban came in November when Whitmer called for a “three week pause” for schools and businesses.

Since then, Whitmer has snubbed the restaurant industry and extended that ban during some of the biggest profit days of the year, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve.
Currently, Whitmer and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is limiting restaurant capacity, requiring that 75% of each restaurant dining room be closed and forcing a 10:00 p.m. curfew.
Whitmer quietly extended the restaurant and bar capacity orders through March 29. During a press conference announcing the resumption of youth sports in Michigan, Whitmer failed to mention she had extended the ban for restaurants and bars.
