LANSING, Mich. (Great Lakes News) – One Michigan County has a message for Lansing: open up now.
Chippewa County is the latest to call on Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to reopen the state immediately. The county commission voted unanimously to demand the state reopen in-person dining, which Gov. Whitmer has allowed beginning Monday, February 1st.

Commissioner Scott Shackleton said it doesn’t make sense for Michigan to remain closed while other states are opening back up. He also added legislators have been largely left out of the decision-making process.
Meanwhile, in person youth contact sports remain sidelined until February 21st. The Whitmer administration cites the new coronavirus strain as the reasoning, but the “Let Them Play” group has plans to sue the state if the governor drags her feet.
